Launching a new business is never easy, especially when it’s just two days old and the world around you feels tight on time and money. Square Delights is exactly that—a newborn cake business, fresh and full of promise. The challenge is real: January is a tough month for spending, and no one has tasted my treats yet. But I’m ready to share my story, my struggles, and my hopes with you as I take this leap.
The Reality of Starting Fresh
Starting Square Delights has been a whirlwind. I’m 48, and I’ve always dreamed of running my own cake business. Life kept getting in the way, but now I’ve decided to stop waiting for the “right time.” Life happens anyway, so I’m going for it. I know it won’t happen overnight. My partner, who runs his own business, reminds me of this often. He finds his work rewarding, and his encouragement keeps me grounded.
It’s frustrating not to have customers yet, but I’m learning that patience and persistence are key. I’ve spent the day researching everything from boot sales to supply companies and media channels. Blogging seemed like a good way to connect without the pressure of being on camera. I’m not naturally funny or comfortable in front of a lens like some people (#terrybakes), but I hope my honesty and passion will resonate.
Building a Support System
Starting a business is not a solo journey. I’m incredibly grateful for my family’s support. They’ve helped me in countless ways over the past few weeks and will continue to be my backstage crew. Their input and encouragement mean the world to me, and I’m sure you’ll get to know them as this adventure unfolds.
Having a support system makes the tough days easier. When doubts creep in, a quick chat or a helping hand can make all the difference. If you’re thinking about starting something new, lean on those who believe in you.
Embracing the Journey
This journey is about more than just selling cakes. It’s about embracing the challenge, learning every step of the way, and sharing the experience with others. I want my future customers—and maybe even friends—to join me on this path.
I’m not perfect. I try to be kind, but I don’t suffer fools gladly, and I do swear sometimes. That’s part of who I am, and I’m okay with that. Square Delights is my baby, and I’m proud of it. Every cake I bake carries a piece of my heart and a lot of hard work.
Practical Steps I’m Taking
Researching local markets and boot sales to find places where I can showcase my cakes and meet potential customers face-to-face.
Exploring supply companies to ensure I have the best ingredients and tools without breaking the bank.
Using blogging as a platform to tell my story, share baking tips, and build a community around Square Delights.
Learning about media channels to find affordable ways to promote my business online and offline.
Listening to feedback from family, friends, and early customers to improve my products and service.
These steps are small but important. They help me build a foundation that will support Square Delights as it grows.
Why Now Is the Time
At 48, I’m not getting any younger, and I’ve realized that waiting for the perfect moment only delays my dreams. The timing might not be ideal—January is tough financially for many—but it’s the right time for me personally. I want to look back and know I gave it my all.
If you have a dream you’ve been putting off, maybe this will inspire you to start now. Life will always have obstacles, but that shouldn’t stop us from trying.
Looking Ahead
Square Delights is just beginning. I know there will be ups and downs, but I’m ready to face them. I want to create delightful treats that bring joy and make people smile. I want to build a business that feels like home, where customers feel welcome and valued.
Thank you for joining me on this journey. Whether you’re a future customer, a fellow dreamer, or just someone who enjoys a good story, I hope you’ll stick around. Here’s to new beginnings, hard work, and the sweet rewards that come with them.
